Lake Serene. Photo by Brent.

Hwy 2 east of Monroe. The Lake Serene Trail climbs some 1800 feet in 3 miles up to the lake. WTA will work on maintaining and improving the lower portion of the trail.

The old trail to Lake Serene had been officially closed since 1982. The new trail, begun in 1995 and completed in 1998, climbs some 1800 feet in 3 miles up to the lake.

Driving directions:
From Seattle, drive north on I-5 to Everett and take exit 194 onto US 2. Drive east on US 2 and after passing through the town of Gold Bar continue approximately 7 miles. Take a right on the Mt. Index Road which is Forest Service Road No. 110 (if you pass the Index Inn on the left, you have gone too far.) Once on Mt. Index Road, take a right at the first Y and the trailhead parking lot will be on the left just up a tiny hill. (Driving time from Seattle: approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.)
