Lena Lake. Photo by efheinitz

Olympic Peninsula near Hamma Hamma Recreation Area north of Hoodsport. Forested second growth to old growth forest, alpine meadows and two beautiful lakes. We'll work up towards the first Lena Lake, concentraing on log out, brushing and tread repair getting the trail ready for the summer season.

The Lena Lake Trail (#810) is an easy trail, free of snow most of the year. The trail switchbacks gently but endlessly through splendid forest. At a mile and a half you will cross the dry stream bed of Lena Creek. At three miles you are at a viewpoint of the lake. It's a great place to eat lunch. Continue around the lake to the campsites. This is a great hike for kids and first time backpackers. It gives them some training before they try harder hikes.

Driving directions:
Travel highway 101 to F.S. road #25 (Hamma Hamma Recreation Area), 14 miles north of Hoodsport. Turn west on FS Road 25, go for 8 miles to the Lean Lake Trailhead. The road is paved. This is a fee site, free day pass will be provided.
